Zachary Braman: craftsman focused on clay, steel & leather.
About Me:
I developed a love of art at a young age, always drawing and creating with whatever was available. In high school, I took a ceramics class and enjoyed it so much that I found any excuse to be at the wheel. I have now been making pottery on and off for twenty years. I am drawn to teapots and tea ware but I also make mugs, plates, and other useful pieces. Some of my ceramics can be found in restaurants and homes around Salt Lake City, Utah where I am currently living.
About 12 years ago, I was working at a Japanese restaurant and wanted to try my hand at making sushi, another art form. I had hands on training and learned so much from those around me. I also found a strong appreciation for the food, culture and tools. I started dabbling in leatherwork, mostly to make utilitarian items for my own daily use: wallets, a sheath for one of my knives and a 16 slot knife bag to house all of my sushi bar tools.
The knife is one of the most important tools for a sushi chef so naturally I wanted to learn how to make my own. In 2020, I took forging classes and learned how to make items like bottle openers, hooks, forging hammers and tongs. Shortly after that, I began to make knives, mostly inspired by the Japanese cutlery that is familiar to me. I have also forged a few of my own tools to finish these projects, such as specialized chisels to hollow out the wooden scabbards or saya.
I built this site to showcase my handmade wares, most of which are fully functional work. Some of these pieces are from my personal collection and I’ll update as more things become available.

The initial launch of this site is to raise funds and help me pay off some medical bills. If you’d like to read more about this, there’s information in my blog section titled “Return of an injury.”
If nothing in the shop catches your eye but you’d like to help, please feel free to donate below.
Anything helps and all is appreciated. Thank you so much.
